Whitney Kropp fights back

  1. Since I've never been to Homecoming all of my ideas about it are based on American movies about teenagers. And this is what I know about it.
Homecoming is an American tradition when all the boys and girls are beautifully dressed go to dancing where they choose their King and Queen.Homecoming is an American tradition and every high school has their own traditions and depending on where a person live and what school a person attends ,homecoming can mean a lot of different things. Homecoming is usually takes place in September or October as a kind of "welcome back to school".It is usually held in the school's gym. The tradition of the homecoming is not that bad. On the other hand, it is rather good. Students can have fun with their friends, wear beautiful cloth and dance .What I don't really like is that some girls take it too serious. They are ready to do everything to win the crown and become queen for one night only. Another reason why I don't really like it is that it may become a good opportunity for some kids to prank their classmates like it happened to Whitney Kropp. Seeing how much offended she was I hope no one would experience the same thing.

  2. The traditions of homecoming are different all over the world. For example, in our country it is like this: students gather at some place, such as restaurant, and just dance, play and have fun.
But, as we know, the tradition of prom is a little bit different in other countries, like USA, for example. In America there is such a custom, according to which students are supposed to invite a date for homecoming beforehand and come with this person at the very evening. It is all done for the nomination of the best couple of the prom. So there is the queen of the homecoming and there is a king of the homecoming. They are chosen by other students.
However, this competition, as any other, may not leave everyone satisfied, as there are other people who’d like to win. So the victory of another couple can make them envy. And the fact that this tradition may cause jealousy, discord and conflict makes me have some doubts about it. Besides, there are also those girls who were not viewed as potential winners of the contest. So this whole thing can upset them and influence their self-esteem.
As a result, I’d more lean toward quitting this tradition because it doesn’t bring happiness. Instead students could just come to the homecoming with their date and have a lot of fun together without any competitions.

  3. Homecoming is an American tradition of welcoming back alumni of a school. Nowadays, this tradition is found in many universities, colleges, and high schools in the United States and Canada. It usually includes activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets of the city or town. And it is really interesting.
The reason why it is awesome is because it brings together all the friends who has been separated from each other.
In recent years as homecoming has become a bigger event, it has begun to resemble prom more and more. But homecoming can be more casual than prom. This makes homecoming more vivid and memorable. It is a time of memories, stories and danсing. I would really like to experience it all on myself.

  5. Homecoming is an annual tradition in the United States. People, towns, high schools, and colleges come together, usually in late September or early October, to welcome back former members of the community. It is built around a central event, such as a banquet or dance and, most often, a game of American football, or, on occasion, basketball, ice hockey, or soccer. Activities usually consist of a football game played on a school's home football field, activities for students and alumni, a parade featuring the school's choir, marching band, and sports teams, and the coronation of a homecoming queen/king. A dance commonly follows the game or the day following the game.
On the one hand, homecoming is a good tradition, since the younger generation can ask all questions of interest to those who have already finished school. It can help them decide on a university. But on the other hand, I don’t like the tradition of the coronation of a homecoming king/queen. In every society there are popular people and unremarkable ones. So, everyone wants to take part in the competition of the king/queen. It often happens that more popular people taunt less popular ones. It can lead to a serious upset. There were cases that after such pranks, people wanted to commit suicide, as in the case of Whitney Kropp.

  6. The tradition of homecoming has been unfamiliar to me to this point. I can compare it to our tradition to have occasional meetings with your classmates after graduating school, only it's not the same at all. The difference lies in the fact that it is an event organized by school and all the graduates show up, thus it may come off a bit formal. Yet the event is supposed to bring a lot of fun. In addition to that, there is a custom of choosing homecoming king and queen during a football game. I can see how a lot of people may be excited about homecoming. As to my taste, being rather an introverted person, I think I wouldn't enjoy much such an event.

  9. Homecoming is an annual tradition in the United States. It's a celebration at a school or a college to honour people who were students there earlier. I think that it is very funny tradition. Every college marks its homecoming differently. I've never been at homecoming so everything that I know about it is based on american movies, books or songs that tell about Homecoming. I think that this event is a good opportunity to have a good time with friends. As I know there is much food. You can eat there, dance, talk to your fellows and just to allow to vent your emotions. I'd like to visit this event for once in my life.

  10. As I understand it, homecoming is almost the same thing that we have in our country -it is a ball for graduates who have graduated from high school. This is an annual tradition in the United States. I've seen this often in American teen movies. On the one hand, it is a wonderful tradition that unites all students. It is accompanied by music, dancing, food, and photos. And it leaves good memories, but not for everyone. After all, the American prom also has a tradition of crowning the King and Queen of the prom. In this case, graduates can behave badly to win. They may be jealous of each other or think that they are somehow worse than others. There is no such tradition in my country, and I think this is a good thing. After all, no one should feel slighted

  11. Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back former students and members and celebrating an organization's existence. It is a tradition in many high schools, colleges, and churches in the United States and to a lesser extent in Canada.
Every high school has their own homecoming traditions and depending on where you live and what school you go to, homecoming can mean a lot of different things. It may, quite literally, mean a coming home of sorts, an opportunity for your school’s alumni to visit their old stomping grounds, to see old friends, teachers, and the underclassman they left behind. Sometimes, it involves a parade, or a big football game like a match up against your school’s rivals, and, if you’re not a sports fan, may be the only football game you’ll go to all year. Often, a homecoming court is crowned, with the highly coveted homecoming king and queen reigning over their kingdom for a year (or maybe until a prom king and queen come along).
I think it's a great tradition. You will meet your old friends, you will discuss your life, remember your best moments.

  13. I experienced something kind of homecoming only one time in my life when I and my former groupmates gathered in the restaurant where we danced, had fun and remembered our studying in college. But homecoming in essence is a bit different from what I had. I saw real homecoming only in the American movies. And I can say that it is an annual celebration at a school or a college usually including a dance and a football game to honour people who were students there earlier. Homecoming is held in late September or early October. It takes former students a lot of time to prepare for this celebration because every person wants to look great, to stand out and draw everybody`s attention. As a rule this celebration is held in the gym that is brightly and colourfully decorated. There is a lot of food and of course punch on the tables.
Homecoming starts with the football game then it`s usually followed by a dance and dinner. And everybody votes for his or her homecoming queen and king who are announced at the football game. On the one hand homecoming is an excellent opportunity to meet old mates, relax and have a good time. But on the other hand some popular students can mock and prank so-called losers again and they remember their school or college time when they were bullied or offended. But anyway I hope that in the future homecoming will be a celebration aiming at giving good vibes and moments.

  14. Homecoming is a traditional celebration at a school or college, usually including a dance when all school leavers gathered together to celebrate graduation.
This tradition is different all over the world. In USA, for example, boys dress in black or white formal wear, girls wear dresses or evening gowns. Girls also traditionally wear a corsage, given to them by their dates, and girls give boys matching boutonnières to be worn on their lapels. The homecoming is usually held at school but some schools rent restaurants. The most important event of the homecoming is the coronation of the king and queen of the ball. Usually the most popular students become the king and queen of the homecoming. The "prom queen" and "prom king" may be given crowns to wear.
For me it’s a good opportunity to bring together all friends and have a fun. But for some students homecoming is a kind of competition. And this competition ruins the atmosphere of the event. But even so, for me, the tradition of homecoming is the best tradition.
